Pin-based (or online debit transactions) debit transactions are a much safer and more reliable way of receiving a payment. The money is taken from the customer's bank account immediately ensuring payment. It is also safer for a business to use this type of transaction to avoid any fraudulent transactions. Anyone can steal a credit card and make purchases but in order for a pin-based transaction to be complete the pin number must be given. An offline debit transaction is used like a credit card. As long as it has the visa / mastercard logo, it will be treated as though it is a credit card. An offline transaction can take 2-3 days to reflect on the customer's account. Since the money is not taken directly, it has a much higher risk of fraud. A perk to offline debit transactions is some merchants can offer the option of withdrawing cash back, adding to the purchase being made.
